The Book of Judges
The Audio Bible channel is happy to present The Book of Judges, widely considered to contain the oldest stories in the Deuteronomistic history. While the last of the judges, Samson, and the story of Samson and Delilah, is its most famous, Judges is also notable for its significant number of female characters, in particular a Levite rape victim, and the prophetess and judge Deborah, one of the Holy Bible's greatest woman figures.
Covering a tumultuous time of war, rebellion and conquest, the stories of The Book of Judges generally follow a typical pattern: the people fall into idolatry and are unfaithful to God; he therefore delivers them into the hands of their enemies; they cray for mercy and repent; and the delivers them by way of a judge or leader; they flourish, then fall out of faith again and the cycle continues. Among other things, Judges or “The Book of Saviors” are loosely connected tales of tribal heroes that lead victorious battles.
